NOTD: NFu Oh #49

Oh, the flaky goodness! This is my first Nfu Oh polish aaaaaand my first flaky. I ♥ it! I know I'm a little bit late to the flaky polish party but I think it's better late than never, right?

A lot of the swatches I've seen of #49 have been over black but I wanted to see what else might make for an interesting base. I wanted to stick with a dark color and toyed with the ideas of blue, purple, and green... I ended up picking Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Blazing Blue. I'm glad I did!

Blazing Blue Base Color (1 coat)

1 coat of #49. No top coat yet.

With SecheVite top coat.

I'd venture to say I'm addicted now. I really like everything about #49. I will definitely have to go back to Fabuloustreet.com and order some more of these. (I'm eying numbers 51 and 56 now!) They cost $12.50 per a bottle but with free shipping in the US I think they're worth it especially since this look is so unique around here. :o)

Thanks for reading!

NOTD: Full Water Decal

I finally got to try the water decals that I had shared the other day... it was a learning experience but I think they turned out fairly decent for a first time. If you have never done these before, I would highly recommend searching for "how to" videos on water decals before you start. The best video I found for reference is in French but it has English subtitles. (You can click here to see that one.)

Putting on the decals took me about 30 minutes but I think that had a lot more to do with my inexperience at this than the actual time this might take if you did it regularly. I think I could easily get this down to a 10-15 minute process with practice which would be awesome.

Mom's are a Blessing ♥

I hope you're all having a wonderful Mother's Day! Although I'm not a mother yet myself, I know from my friends who are parents and from my very own parents what a tough job being a good mom (or dad) really is. I have the utmost respect for you ladies!

With that being said, I thought I'd share a poem I wrote. I'm by no means a poet but sometimes, I just like to write down the feelings I have in a poetic sort of way. I wrote this for a friend who is struggling with her teenaged daughter's sudden change in behavior. She was very upset over some extremely hard decisions she had to make about her daughter's well being and getting her the help she needed. My friend was so heartbroken and I could see how deeply it hurt her. It broke MY heart to see her so sad.

That made me think back to my crazy teen years and all of the things I put my poor mom through. We talked about what she's going through and I gave her my perspective from the "rebellious teen" point of view. I drew on those emotions and that experience in my life and told her I truly think that her daughter may be angry at her now but she'll appreciate all the tough love when she gets older and understands the reasons why. So this is the poem... it's kind of long but I hope you like it. :o)

A Mom's Tough Love

My mom knows everything, it all! Really! She does!
Why's the sky blue? Why's Dad's belly button have fuzz?
She knows all the answers to any questions I could ask.
That was until I turned thirteen and started my eighth grade class.
I just don't know why she's so boring and so old!
I mean, get with it Mom! I'm young, independent, and bold!
My friends all know what's up so why don't you?
It's all about the clothes, the makeup, the boys, the shoes!
School is so overrated! Who cares how math problems are equated.
I feel angry and restricted so the boundaries, I'll push.
Mom will scream and yell and even beat my tush.
I swear on everything, that woman drives me crazy!
Why's it so wrong to have some fun? Maybe be a little lazy?
I'll do what I want, when I want, and I'll listen to no one!
Everything is done my way in my kingdom now!
Don't you see I'm the princess, the one wearing the crown!

Now the years have flown by and my friends have all changed,
I've had boyfriends and date nights and discovered my range!
All this time, no matter how much I fought, my mom guarded me,
guided me, pushed me so far. She made me sweat, made me work hard!
She did all of this to make me become a better woman than she.
And I finally realize this now as I'm getting close to the age of thirty...
I'm beautiful. I'm strong. She taught me the right from the wrong.
Those teen years were so hard and I'm sorry for the all strife,
but thank you Mom, for all you did. Thank you for saving my life.
I know you love me so much and you did what was best...
if it wasn't for you, I would have become such a mess.
You dealt with my fits, the fights, the tears and the screams...
You never slowed down even when I would talk back!
You broke your own heart just to make sure mine stayed intact.
Thanks to your tough love and what you did so selflessly,
I got to grow up and now I will live out my dreams.

This is me and my Mommy about oooooh, 28 years ago. I ♥ her!!

I Want a Second-Chance Prom

I have a confession... I never went to prom. Ever. As I was out shopping tonight, I saw a lot of teenage girls running around in their beautiful dresses with their perfectly coiffed hair and makeup and it made me feel a ping of sadness. I really regret not going!

The short version of the story is that I was rebellious teen with a wanna-be rock star of a boyfriend and he convinced me that we were just too cool to go to prom. I realize now that I missed out on a quintessential teen experience but what can I do about it? Not a lot so I thought I'd fawn over prom dresses online. :o)

I think my favorite dress out of all of these is definitely the Igigi. I love the uniqueness of the pattern and the black and white is always a winner with me. ♥ But then I had a thought... this is what I would wear if I went to prom NOW as a grown up. Ten years ago, I was a much different person... how different? This different...

I'm going to date myself here... this was back in 1999 back when 2.0MP was a high quality digital camera, lol. My wardrobe consisted of a lot of black, red and fishnet back then. If I would have actually went to prom, my dress would have looked a little more like this, I think...

Oh yeah, PVC was the business back in the day. Before I was talked out of going, I actually had picked out a similar dress at Hot Topic and planned on buying "flame" high heels to go with it. I couldn't even contemplate pulling off anything like this now days... it would just look so weird, I think. Not because of the dress but because of my personality... I'm just not that girl anymore if that makes any kind of sense, lol.

Mail Call: But Wait! There's More...

There's nothing like opening the mailbox to find it full of packages containing nail polishing goodies. Doing that two days in a row makes it even better! I could barely contain my excitement long enough to get back into the house to open the 2 that arrived in today's mail.

This polish gave me another reason to loooove all the nail blogs. Nfu Oh 49 is a polish that in all actuality, I would probably pass on if I saw it in a store. Seriously, it's orangy and has a weird looking texture and there's like some sort of green thing happening... The way it appears in the bottle doesn't do it justice at all but seeing it on other bloggers nails gives it a new life and personality. And I love it! (especially over black.)

The second color is Nubar Reclaim and it's full of holo-y goodness. I can't wait to try this one out... maybe on my toes since my fingers are going to be covered in the Nfu Oh! :o)

Mail Call!

I ordered my first ever water decals from eBay on Wednesday. To my surprise, they were in the mailbox today! I ♥ these... they are so freaking pretty! I didn't think about the size of the decals when I ordered them but I'm curious to see how they'll look since I keep my nails so short. In fact, I determined that I could cut the the rainbow ones in half and have two different sets. I'm excited... I can't wait to try these!

NOTD: Country Chic

I found an adorable manicure on Drops of Jupiter and I just had to nab the look for myself. The photo on Tiffany's blog wasn't credited so if anyone knows where it's from, please comment and tell me!

I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Mint Sorbet and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Rose-a-go-g0 as my base colors. The flowers were created using OPI Double Decker Red, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White & the Rose-a-go-g0. The leaves are OPI Jade is the New Black and the stripes are also the Whirlwind White. Simple and super cute! ♥
