I hope you all had a happy and fun 4th of July. Other than dinner at my in-laws, the hubby and I didn't do anything exiting to celebrate since the holiday fell mid-week. We both had to go back to work on Thursday unlike a lot of my friends so, I've just been sitting here envious of all their beach vacation photos they've been posting on facebook ever since. It's okay though... I have spiffy nails that I was able to paint in all my free time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x-LwPk4T1TA/T_pnuHMoWGI/AAAAAAAAB_w/df5yJgBSbTg/s1600/IMAG2412.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x-LwPk4T1TA/T_pnuHMoWGI/AAAAAAAAB_w/df5yJgBSbTg/s400/IMAG2412.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So for this manicure, I did a variation of the blue ombre nails from a
couple of weeks ago. It wasn't a planned look... it just sort of
evolved. I started out with plain gold nails using <span class="rg_ctlv">Sally
Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish in Gilty Pleasure. Then I
suddenly got the idea to do the ombre look using Essie Nail Polish in
Licorice sponged on with a disposable eyeshadow applicator. And since
I'm never ever satisfied, I topped it off with a coat of China Glaze
Matte Magic and ta dah! Fierce gold and black nails. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u0jGzbbWEJs/T_pnv_lWuYI/AAAAAAAACAA/MGP7VVeyPs4/s1600/IMAG2418.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u0jGzbbWEJs/T_pnv_lWuYI/AAAAAAAACAA/MGP7VVeyPs4/s400/IMAG2418.jpg" width="400" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u0jGzbbWEJs/T_pnv_lWuYI/AAAAAAAACAA/MGP7VVeyPs4/s1600/IMAG2418.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<span class="rg_ctlv"><br /></span><br />
<span class="rg_ctlv">I really like the ombre look because it's so quick and easy but still packs a punch. People always notice them and I get a lot of compliments or questions on how in the world I did it. So, do you like the ombre look and what are your favorite color combinations?</span><br />

<br />
This is actually my 3rd manicure since my last post but the other two were nothing to write home about. This one is a little different though. I'm not 100% pleased with how it turned out but it was a experiment in a different way to paint ombre nails. I followed this <a href="http://thebeautydepartment.com/2012/04/pretty-polish-idea/" target="_blank">tutorial</a> from The Beauty Department.<br />
<br />
I think it was definitely quicker and easier than stamping or dabbing on each color individually but I wasn't to thrilled with my color choice. I should have know better because we all know blue polish is the worst for staining skin. I used all Essie brand polish and from left to right they are Smooth Sailing, Mesmerize, and Midnight Tango.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g_KYDPQbdzw/T9wmI0jt6fI/AAAAAAAAB-E/Nw9MmtHjVrk/s1600/IMAG2102.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g_KYDPQbdzw/T9wmI0jt6fI/AAAAAAAAB-E/Nw9MmtHjVrk/s320/IMAG2102.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lbV-RQ8x5Xs/T9wmF-T1AdI/AAAAAAAAB98/t5Kzdw0CGpQ/s1600/IMAG2098.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lbV-RQ8x5Xs/T9wmF-T1AdI/AAAAAAAAB98/t5Kzdw0CGpQ/s320/IMAG2098.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
From start to finish, this whole look took about 20 minutes and 15 of that was spent getting the blue off my cuticles... it was the biggest pain. I'm definitely adding this style to my list of quick and easy mani's that pack a little punch and I can't wait to try it again. Next time, I'm thinking pink or silver with black tips. What color combos do you think would look good on ombre nails?</div>

I know I said I'd try to start blogging again but as you can see, I sure as heck haven't. I know, I know... I suck. I haven't done my own nails in months! I've been getting the gel manicures at the salon since they last 2-3 weeks just because it's simpler and I can wash dishes without gloves (lamest reason ever). On the down side of that, I'm fair skinned and prone to freckles and moles so I'm not really feeling the whole UV light to cure the gel polish situation. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and have never ever seen the inside of a tanning bed so I think the lamps at the salon might fall into that same category. Maybe? I don't know.<br />
<br />
Anywho, I was going through my polish stash and tools reminiscing on the good times. (I miss you Konad.) I really want to get back into painting... I need a creative outlet and with the wedding insanity over, I can get back to doing my thing. So stay tuned... I have a few days left with my current mani and then it's going to be art time!<br />
<br />
Love ya!<br />

<br />
P.S. - What in the heck happened with the blogger format?? I am soooo confused!Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05407201287337559379noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6906759989471499408.post-24848062536847333162012-03-02T22:44:00.004-08:002018-06-23T13:57:24.703-07:00Well, Look What the Cat Dragged In...So, um... it's looks like I've been on a bit of an unintentional hiatus. First and foremost, I'd like to apologize to my followers for my disappearing act. My bad! Also, thank you guys for the messages encouraging me to come and continue blogging. That meant a lot to me!<br /><br />So what happened, you may ask? Honestly, it wasn't any one thing particular but a combination of several. I work a full time job with required overtime (blessed to be busy!) and then my company reorganized and things got weird. I had to focus more on my job during the change but we're good and settled now so I can relax a wee bit. Then, as some of you guys may know, I'm getting married in 6 weeks from now so I've been busy wedding planning! That's been a whole other issue which would likely take several blog posts to explain the insanity that has become my wedding. <br /><br />And then there's the lamest explanation of all: I suffer from what my fiance calls "Craft ADD"... I essentially go through phases. I'll sew for a while and get bored. So I'll start drawing and painting again until I get burned out on that. Then I'll make jewelry or read books or bake cupcakes everyday until I'm sick of those things. After months of painting my nails every few days, I was bored with it and ready to do something else. It's odd and I don't know why I'm like that but I am what I am. <br /><br />As far as painting my nails goes, I've been getting gel manicures from the nail salon every two weeks. No fuss, no muss! So, I don't really know if I'll be getting back into blogging about polish specifically and I don't want to make any promises I may not be able to keep. <br /><br />So that's the gist of things... I just wanted to let you guys know I'm okay and apologize for leaving you hanging! Until next time...<br /><br />KimKimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05407201287337559379noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6906759989471499408.post-86876854343926161582011-10-03T20:36:00.000-07:002018-06-23T13:57:26.860-07:00NOTD: Pumpkin SpiceAhhh... October! I love the fall! It is my absolute favorite season... crunchy leaves, the crispness in the air, pumpkin flavored everything, the World Series, boots and sweaters. My base cost is OPI Black Onyx with one coat of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Pumpkin Spice on top. I was playing ball with Bella Roo yesterday and my nail on my pointer finger sustained a critical break. She got really excited and tried to grab the ball out of my hand. It was was the perfect storm of puppy teeth, a tennis ball, and a 3 day old manicure... there was nothing I could do to save it. So, I ended up cutting back all my nails since there was such an extreme difference in the lengths... broke my heart. :o(<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZahohiCeHYc/Tn7IRRcuhWI/AAAAAAAABtk/K9XglxZdUyk/s1600/break.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZahohiCeHYc/Tn7IRRcuhWI/AAAAAAAABtk/K9XglxZdUyk/s400/break.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5656178381091145058" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;">It's a wee nubbin!</span><br /></div><br />Oh well, what can ya do? So anyways, I've seen several new takes on stamped zebra and tiger manicures in the past few days and I have to say, I'm a fan! I added OPI Black Onyx bit by bit until I got the black jelly polish to depth I wanted... if I had to guess, I would estimate it was about 1/2 a teaspoon. Then I added a dash of Fantasy Makers Confetti glitter in Glitz and shook it all up. And voila... it's a Licorice Disco Ball!<br /><br />At one coat, it's transparent enough to use as a layering polish and at two I could still see my nail line but it still looked okay. I used three out of personal preference for a nice opaque look. I like this one better than my previous franken. I used a lot less glitter so the finish is much smoother which is nice... it only took 1 thick coat of seche vite to smooth out the surface.<br /><br />So what do you guys think? A did a super simple and quick manicure using Sally Hansen Intsa-Dri Bronze Ablaze and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Set the Stage glitter on my ring fingers. I was going to call this post Bronze Age but my brother suggested the much wittier title of Third Place Nails... as in the bronze Olympic medal. He's just so smart. :)<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rruT_cB26F4/TnlX2bSwdLI/AAAAAAAABsM/NYSRqywZ0-8/s1600/3.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rruT_cB26F4/TnlX2bSwdLI/AAAAAAAABsM/NYSRqywZ0-8/s400/3.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654647399691351218" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sP7PCWb_Njo/TnlX2auCL5I/AAAAAAAABsE/CRXzMXQ6amQ/s1600/2.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sP7PCWb_Njo/TnlX2auCL5I/AAAAAAAABsE/CRXzMXQ6amQ/s400/2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654647399537323922" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RYbHMlH1Wyg/TnlX2MS-L3I/AAAAAAAABr8/cY3ddwbG2bI/s1600/1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RYbHMlH1Wyg/TnlX2MS-L3I/AAAAAAAABr8/cY3ddwbG2bI/s400/1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654647395665719154" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ibEwCOiiOHk/TnlX2qUfseI/AAAAAAAABsU/Apemr5sJCus/s1600/4.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ibEwCOiiOHk/TnlX2qUfseI/AAAAAAAABsU/Apemr5sJCus/s400/4.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5654647403725173218" border="0" /></a><br />Bronze Ablaze is a part of Sally Hansen's Fall 2011 release and is supposed to be available for a limited time only. Super quick post since I have to be up for work in just a couple of hours. (eek!) I used OPI Mermaid Tears and San Tan-tonio as my base colors and then the designs were completed using Essie Little Black Dress with the leopard Bundle Monster plate and then I added gold Stripe Rite for the final touch. Easy peasy and ready for fall. ♥<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WDd9vB8m6KM/TnQrm4GmdpI/AAAAAAAABrs/Xaa7hhtysE8/s1600/2.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WDd9vB8m6KM/TnQrm4GmdpI/AAAAAAAABrs/Xaa7hhtysE8/s400/2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5653191379151910546" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R_fww31dN5Q/TnQrmjtq9OI/AAAAAAAABrk/iOndST5iVd0/s1600/1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R_fww31dN5Q/TnQrmjtq9OI/AAAAAAAABrk/iOndST5iVd0/s400/1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5653191373678638306" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6FAllaxmUNM/TnQrnCQLJbI/AAAAAAAABr0/tXIU1Om-klI/s1600/3.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6FAllaxmUNM/TnQrnCQLJbI/AAAAAAAABr0/tXIU1Om-klI/s400/3.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5653191381876417970" border="0" /></a><br />Thanks for reading!<br />- KimKimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05407201287337559379noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6906759989471499408.post-58669603275908233342011-09-15T20:36:00.000-07:002018-06-23T13:57:25.943-07:00NOTD: Puttin' on the Glitz!Hey guys! Today I'm bringing you a Nails + Whatnot first... I finally did it! I made my very first franken polish. For those that may not know what that is, I'll briefly explain. A franken is when you mix colors or add something like glitter to existing polishes to create an entirely new color. So basically, you're mashing parts and pieces together a la Dr. Frankenstein. Pretty simple, right?<br /><br />Well, I stopped in at my local Kmart today in search of the <a href="http://www.kaylashevonne.com/2011/09/swatch-comparison-deborah-lippmann-ruby.html">Deborah Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers Dupe</a>. Unfortunately, they didn't have it but they did have this little bottle of Fantasy Makers cosmetic glitter in Glitz in the Halloween display. Since it was only $2.99, I snatched it up figuring I'd figure out something fun to do with it later. It didn't take me long to find inspiration...<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wK_MKNlESts/TnLQRYUlXLI/AAAAAAAABrc/L54oorBpCcw/s1600/8.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wK_MKNlESts/TnLQRYUlXLI/AAAAAAAABrc/L54oorBpCcw/s400/8.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652809479308532914" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;">Ooooh, rainbow glitter goodness!</span><br /></div><br />Back at home, I was scavenging through my drawer of misfit polishes (you know the ones you just don't like the way they look or they have weird formulas? Yeah, those.) and I came across a bottle of Wet-N-Wild Gray's Anatomy. Gorgeous in the bottle and kind of blah on the nails... I didn't like how transparent it was and it's not the strongest duochrome out there but I digress. I knew it would be given new life as the perfect base for my glitter!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t3Q_j6zOyp4/TnLQAZpZ5TI/AAAAAAAABqs/T1KDa2oYQ7c/s1600/2.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t3Q_j6zOyp4/TnLQAZpZ5TI/AAAAAAAABqs/T1KDa2oYQ7c/s400/2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652809187606521138" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;">This is some math I can get into!</span><br /><br /></div>I mixed roughly 1/8 teaspoon of the glitter and about half the bottle of the Gray's into an empty old Seche Vite bottle. Then I shook the bejeezus out of it to mix it all up and create this awesome holo polish. I think it came out great and there's more sparkle than you can shake a stick at!<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tItVBNe22_U/TnLQACfQ9WI/AAAAAAAABqk/ScIjPCvCi20/s1600/1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tItVBNe22_U/TnLQACfQ9WI/AAAAAAAABqk/ScIjPCvCi20/s400/1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652809181389976930" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5So1Pbtu-xU/TnLQRV9yTUI/AAAAAAAABrU/VX1Kmho4TEw/s1600/7.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5So1Pbtu-xU/TnLQRV9yTUI/AAAAAAAABrU/VX1Kmho4TEw/s400/7.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652809478676041026" border="0" /></a><br />I love it. A lot. The only thing I could find wrong with my formula is that the glitter makes it a top coat killer. I have on a thick coat of Seche Vite on top and it's still got a bit of a texture poking thru. I think a second coat of Seche will fix that but I haven't tried it so I'm not positive. But here it is on the nails:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5So1Pbtu-xU/TnLQRV9yTUI/AAAAAAAABrU/VX1Kmho4TEw/s1600/7.JPG"><br /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ek9yG7ISXD0/TnLQRChmwHI/AAAAAAAABrM/2aBurRD7pg0/s1600/6.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ek9yG7ISXD0/TnLQRChmwHI/AAAAAAAABrM/2aBurRD7pg0/s400/6.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652809473457569906" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;">Shimmer</span><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zcVqBMQMRhY/TnLQAkPkdRI/AAAAAAAABq8/E-rCkEzxi44/s1600/4.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zcVqBMQMRhY/TnLQAkPkdRI/AAAAAAAABq8/E-rCkEzxi44/s400/4.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652809190450951442" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;">Shine</span><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qXTf4so_VPg/TnLQAkDIpII/AAAAAAAABq0/LH8TAk8z56Q/s1600/3.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qXTf4so_VPg/TnLQAkDIpII/AAAAAAAABq0/LH8TAk8z56Q/s400/3.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652809190398796930" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:85%;">Sparkle</span><br /></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZUyUnqRXzEI/TnLQAyBDlOI/AAAAAAAABrE/LwdGqrQPuxY/s1600/5.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZUyUnqRXzEI/TnLQAyBDlOI/AAAAAAAABrE/LwdGqrQPuxY/s400/5.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5652809194148173026" border="0" /></a>Glitz!<br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;">And oh mah gah, is it just me, or does it look like Christmas lights when blurred? This is not it. I don't know what happened but my idea got lost in translation and I ended up with this wonky manicure. It's not horrible but I envisioned it differently... it's just kind of meh. <br /><br />The base is Essie Case Study with Finger Paints Romanticism Ruby on the tips. I'm just doing a quick little post today. I tried out Zoya Cynthia from this fall's Smoke and Mirrors collection... it's a nice dark peacock blue. Think like Lincoln Park After Dark's blue-green cousin, if you will. And true to my worst-polish-blogger-ever form, I totally neglected to take pictures of what it looks like before I applied a coat of China Glaze Crackle in Platinum Pieces. Oh well... there are ton of blogs out there with swatches. Long time, no post! I've been terribly busy this past week or so. Between birthday celebrations, my friends' wedding, and month end at work, I haven't had time to breath! So anyways, I got my order from Zoya on Friday... I took advantage of their free shipping offer and ordered some of the Smoke and Mirrors Fall collection.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h5ukelCtc3I/TmbGha3UHLI/AAAAAAAABpM/AjTjjsahSfI/s1600/zoya.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-h5ukelCtc3I/TmbGha3UHLI/AAAAAAAABpM/AjTjjsahSfI/s400/zoya.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649421060032175282" border="0" /></a>Zoya Dree, Anja, Cynthia, and Yara<br /></div><br />I just picked out the ones I really wanted... these colors take me way back to the fall of 1994 when I started sixth grade. That's a really specific time frame but I remember it clearly... I wanted to revamp my 11 year old style and all the preppy kids were in love with the deep maroon, green, and navy that was so popular that school year. Everything came in those shades: tops, bottoms, bookbags, purses, Sam and Libby flats with the little bows. My mom actually let me get three pairs of jeans, one in each color and a matching navy blue Dooney and Bourke... it was total awesome sauce and I thought I was the coolest kid ever, lol. But enough with the trip down memory lane... on to the mani!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O7blMtsQSog/TmbGhEIZieI/AAAAAAAABpE/2b1K3Khskiw/s1600/4.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-O7blMtsQSog/TmbGhEIZieI/AAAAAAAABpE/2b1K3Khskiw/s400/4.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649421053929818594" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qRzJeKO84WA/TmbGfQhI4OI/AAAAAAAABo8/RhdcoVv537Q/s1600/3.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qRzJeKO84WA/TmbGfQhI4OI/AAAAAAAABo8/RhdcoVv537Q/s400/3.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649421022895071458" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7_HNPnSRiXY/TmbGfUROI3I/AAAAAAAABo0/qlb_telAxSI/s1600/2.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7_HNPnSRiXY/TmbGfUROI3I/AAAAAAAABo0/qlb_telAxSI/s400/2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649421023902049138" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FN7vsVxZ4nI/TmbGfIfhITI/AAAAAAAABos/bP578-h270U/s1600/1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FN7vsVxZ4nI/TmbGfIfhITI/AAAAAAAABos/bP578-h270U/s400/1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649421020740788530" border="0" /></a><br />I used Zoya Dree on all of my nails and then I layered Zoya Yara on my ring fingers. I snatched up this bottle of Revlon Bubble at Target yesterday. It was a steal as it was already clearanced down to $3.17 and then I had a $1.00 coupon on top of that. Woot woot!
<br />
<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ApwVNBLAZ-Q/Tlp8VQaOpHI/AAAAAAAABoE/s8bJaXB6udU/s1600/1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ApwVNBLAZ-Q/Tlp8VQaOpHI/AAAAAAAABoE/s8bJaXB6udU/s400/1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645961787486413938" border="0" /></a>
<br />I really like this shade of pink... it seems a little more purplely in my pictures but it's not. Revlon got hot pink right on this one in my opinion. The shade is purely pink but it's not neon looking like a lot of hot pinks are, so it compliments my fair skin instead of washing it out.
<br />
<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-soVtTL2mjrY/Tlp8VgRvJjI/AAAAAAAABoU/zpaF4Vj9dfQ/s1600/3.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-soVtTL2mjrY/Tlp8VgRvJjI/AAAAAAAABoU/zpaF4Vj9dfQ/s400/3.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645961791745762866" border="0" /></a>

<br />I called this post Bubble Trouble because I had some trouble with my design. From a distance, my flower looks like an eyeball, lol. I think it has something to do with the Seche Vite taking the detail out of the gem in the middle... it went from a little sparkly stone to a black blob. Ugh.

I just happen to live in North Carolina but fortunately, I live about 200 miles inland. We're still expecting some rough thunderstorms though so I have my storm kit ready. I took this picture this morning about 11:30 and the storm clouds were already rolling in. Icky stuff!
<br />
<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nsWgclNrxn0/Tlg6kImOOSI/AAAAAAAABnc/hOAZX91ClFQ/s1600/HurricaneIrene.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nsWgclNrxn0/Tlg6kImOOSI/AAAAAAAABnc/hOAZX91ClFQ/s400/HurricaneIrene.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645326525366417698" border="0" /></a>
<br />So in honor of Ms. Irene, I went with gray and blue nails to match the storms clouds. The gray is Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Wet Cement and the blue is OPI Ski Teal We Drop. I did a tape mani which I first learned about on <a href="http://chloesnails.blogspot.com/p/tutorials.html">Chloe's Nails</a> oh so long ago. She has amazing tutorials and was one of the very first nail blogs I started following. She hasn't updated in a looong time but I hope she comes back soon... I miss her awesome designs.

<br />I love the gray polish... the color reminds me of an elephant which means it's the prefect shade. It's an actual true gray which is hard to find sometimes since a lot of them tend to lean towards blue or brown. And at at about $3.00 a bottle, it's a great deal. :o)

I participated in another Old Navy sample from <a href="http://crowdtap.com/">Crowdtap</a>... they sent me a coupon for a free pair of jeans and all I had to do was go to the store and pick out the pair I wanted. I chose this amazing pair of <a href="http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=70140&vid=1&pid=864824&scid=864824012">Hi-Rise Retro Flare jeans</a> in Senegal blue and I purchased a pair on my own in the Black Jack.
<br />
<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-getKAv0WUNU/TlaiIpIPBJI/AAAAAAAABnU/c9Mqi52dhhw/s1600/6.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 271px; height: 362px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-getKAv0WUNU/TlaiIpIPBJI/AAAAAAAABnU/c9Mqi52dhhw/s400/6.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644877452318540946" border="0" /></a>
<br />I'm a plus size girl and my figure is more apple shaped so I have a heck of a time finding jeans that fit my body comfortably and still look good. My hips and thighs are more of a size 18 while my midsection is a 22 which leads to a lot of awkward times in the fitting room, lol. I managed to walk of the fitting room with two pairs of these in a size 18... yay!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZatDre7CLfc/Tlag-aduTRI/AAAAAAAABm0/uI7YWJ1wRKw/s1600/1.jpg">

<br />
<br />
<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RZ901VIMxsA/Tlag-lqg2cI/AAAAAAAABnE/a7DDPqoDElU/s1600/3.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RZ901VIMxsA/Tlag-lqg2cI/AAAAAAAABnE/a7DDPqoDElU/s400/3.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644876180078254530" border="0" /></a>Bella wanted in on the pictures again... cute puppy!
<br /></div>
<br />When I saw these were high rise, I was elated since that is a style that is comfortable for my body type. And then, when I tried them on, it was like a hallelujah moment and the lights shown down from heaven... <span style="font-style: italic;">aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh</span>. The denim is soft and stretchy and hugs my curves with out being too tight. The only "con" about these is that I'll have to hem them since they didn't have short length available in the store. I'm okay with that though since I'm used to the plight of the short people, lol. I'm 5'5" so I actually hem a lot of my pants so no biggie. Also, I've been wearing these all afternoon and they seem to be holding their shape really well which is another great thing... nothing worse than a saggy booty.
<br />
<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZatDre7CLfc/Tlag-aduTRI/AAAAAAAABm0/uI7YWJ1wRKw/s1600/1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZatDre7CLfc/Tlag-aduTRI/AAAAAAAABm0/uI7YWJ1wRKw/s400/1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644876177071820050" border="0" /></a>The backside.
<br /></div>
<br />Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest, I would rate these a 9. (And that's just because I have to hem them, lol.) So, if you're like me and are apple shape, you need to check these out. They're available in store up to a size 20 and they were on sale at my local Old Navy for $19.50. The website has them listed at $29.50 to $34.50 but I would still get these even at the higher price. In fact, I'm contemplating ordering the lighter wash as we speak since they didn't have that one in store, lol.

Before I get to the nails, I wanted get your thoughts on the new blog design. I was getting a little tired of the pale watercolor look I had going and wanted something a little bit edgier. I modeled it after my profile picture, lol. I think it's cute but I feel like it needs something else... hmmm.
<br />
<br />Anyway, I came across this super simple tutorial by <a href="http://nailartexpress.wordpress.com/2011/08/21/red-floral-set/">Nail Art Express</a> and I was instantly inspired to do my own version. I love her nail art and if you aren't following her, you definitely should! She has some amazing ideas and is always willing to share what she knows.

<br />For this mani, I used China Glaze VIII (the dark purple) and Sally Hansen Delphinium as my base colors, the flowers were done using China Glaze Spontaneous and VII, Sally Hansen Whirlwind White, and Zoya Gemma. The dots are the Whirlwind White and Essie Licorice. If I were to do this one again, I think I would make the outsides of the flowers the dark purple and the inside the light. But anywho, thanks for reading!

<br />I didn't have a specific image I was referencing for inspiration... I just knew in my mind that I wanted this to be a blue and white floral pattern like antique dishes my grandmother used to have. I was pleased with the end result but when I showed Mr. N&W this mani, he said "Oh, blueberries... that's nice." My little heart was broken, lol. So what do you guys think? Are these flowers or blueberries?

Quick post today... I did a random design using Bundle Monster image plates BM-208 and BM-221. My base color is OPI Bling Dynasty and the stamps are done with China Glaze China Rouge, Orly Luxe, and Essie Licorice. It's very different than what I would typically wear but I think it's pretty none the less... I'll still probably end up taking it off tomorrow though, lol.

I had a 15% off coupon to Kohl's plus $20 bucks in Kohl's cash that I needed to use before it expired. I searched the store high and low for something to spend my coupon on and nothing was really appealing to me until I spotted this guy.
<br />
<br /><a href="http://thebabycakesshop.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/d/o/donut_open.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 420px; height: 340px;" src="http://thebabycakesshop.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/d/o/donut_open.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>
<br />It was on sale for $29.99 so with my various discounts, it came out to less than $10. Sweeeet! The set comes with a couple of recipes for donuts but after browsing for more online, several people recommended using cake batter for softer, fluffier donuts. So that's what I did... and look at the yummy goodness!
<br />

<br />I used Duncan Hines Triple Chocolate Decadent cake mix and man, they super tasty... I'm ashamed to admit I've had about 5 of them with all the fixings, lol! And as an aside, <a href="http://thebabycakesshop.com/">Babycakes</a> has makers for mini cupcakes, cake pops, and whoopie pies... I want to try them all.

I like it better on the shirt than the walls so decided to see if I could imitate it, lol. I started to freehand the design but I thought better of it and broke out my Bundle Monster plates... I went with the feather pattern on BM-214 since it was the closet thing to the palm leaves.

It was a little time consuming to do that many stamps but I needed the mental break today so I didn't mind. :o)

<br />On a side note, if you're interested in this buying this top, you may want to check out your local Target before getting it online. Mine had these on clearance for $8.98 but the website is still selling them for $17.99 for whatever reason. I swear I will never understand why the prices vary like that, lol. But anywho... thanks for reading!

As promised, here is the Five Dot Flower tutorial. This is my first attempt at an actual "how to" so bare with me and I apologize... this baby is a little photo intensive, so be warned. (Maybe one day, I learn how to put all this mess into a video!)
<br />
<br />To get started, you will need 5 polishes: a base color, two shades for your flower blossom, and two shades for the leaves. You can get away with one color on leaves but I think two gives the them more depth. Totally up to preference! For the tools, all you will need is a large dotting tool (a bobby pin will work) and a detail brush. You can buy the fancy ones from the beauty supply store or you can do like me and buy the cheap-o kind from the art store. (Keep in mind what the bristles are made of... natural is better since you'll likely have to clean them with nail polish remover. Acrylic and nylon ones can melt!)
<br />
<br />For these flowers, I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Magenta Motion and Fuchsia Flare. The leaves are Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Chartreuse Chase and China Glaze Tree Hugger. My base is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Whirlwind White.
<br />

<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XCbxTepY3Ns/TkHXdoYiYtI/AAAAAAAABiw/te1Djk3aOpc/s1600/step-flowers.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XCbxTepY3Ns/TkHXdoYiYtI/AAAAAAAABiw/te1Djk3aOpc/s400/step-flowers.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639025112501084882" border="0" /></a>

<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nZP9xJ7Lxuk/TkHXp3rR_5I/AAAAAAAABjI/mHauI8dcXO4/s1600/step-youwillneed.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nZP9xJ7Lxuk/TkHXp3rR_5I/AAAAAAAABjI/mHauI8dcXO4/s400/step-youwillneed.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639025322764664722" border="0" /></a>
<br />You will also need something drip your polish on.... I just use paper. It protects my workspace and keeps everything neat and tidy in one place. Let's get started!
<br />
<br /><ul><li>Paint your nails your chosen base color. In this case, it's the white...
<br /></li></ul>
<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZQf2d_vtPc/TkHXMXttmzI/AAAAAAAABhw/6D1kF2my4bo/s1600/step1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4ZQf2d_vtPc/TkHXMXttmzI/AAAAAAAABhw/6D1kF2my4bo/s400/step1.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639024815968721714" border="0" /></a>
<br /><ul><li>Then, place a dot of your main flower color on the paper workspace. Using the dotting tool/bobby pin, place a dot on your nail. Work your way around in a circular shape, placing 5 dots (petals) in a flower shape. I did a crappy job of photographing this step so here's an illustration...
<br /></li></ul><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Why4TowJdv8/TkHg3VFw5KI/AAAAAAAABjY/C4jCVB3LxgA/s1600/dots.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 104px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Why4TowJdv8/TkHg3VFw5KI/AAAAAAAABjY/C4jCVB3LxgA/s400/dots.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639035449603318946" border="0" /></a>
<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HUkPsJxVoBY/TkHXMRnsVNI/AAAAAAAABh4/f9hSDWCJSAY/s1600/step-2.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HUkPsJxVoBY/TkHXMRnsVNI/AAAAAAAABh4/f9hSDWCJSAY/s400/step-2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639024814332859602" border="0" /></a>
<br /><ul><li>Once you have your flower dotted out, drop a bit of your flower's accent color onto the paper. Using the detail brush, go around your flower adding small curved lines for the edges of the petals... work your way to the center of the flower. I like to finish mine with a little swirl in the middle. How detailed you get is completely up to you... I keep mine a little abstract since it's quicker that way. ;)</li></ul><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yq7WhLPEOtc/TkHXMgmJn4I/AAAAAAAABiA/n1ouZ9d5e7g/s1600/step3.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yq7WhLPEOtc/TkHXMgmJn4I/AAAAAAAABiA/n1ouZ9d5e7g/s400/step3.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639024818352922498" border="0" /></a>

<br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sJg6T0I29RE/TkHXMxY4XpI/AAAAAAAABiQ/Gxw7NXhLZeE/s1600/step5.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sJg6T0I29RE/TkHXMxY4XpI/AAAAAAAABiQ/Gxw7NXhLZeE/s400/step5.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639024822860668562" border="0" /></a>
<br /><ul><li>Alright, wipe your detail brush clean of any polish. Now it's time to add the leaves. Drop a bit of the lighter green onto you paper and use your brush to add little swooshes of the green next to the edges of your flowers. I like to put two leaves on one side and a single leave on the other because I'm obsessive like that...
<br /></li></ul><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sZkXv_VU1Hg/TkHXdCKC4FI/AAAAAAAABiY/cVHZkK8wb68/s1600/step6.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sZkXv_VU1Hg/TkHXdCKC4FI/AAAAAAAABiY/cVHZkK8wb68/s400/step6.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639025102239752274" border="0" /></a>
<br /><ul><li>Good so far! Now here's that optional part... go back and add a line of the darker green to each leave. See the difference? I think it just looks more polished that way, no pun intended.
<br /></li></ul>
<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sbmHcsLr7M8/TkHXdQG7geI/AAAAAAAABig/5q2QBhXr35I/s1600/step7.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sbmHcsLr7M8/TkHXdQG7geI/AAAAAAAABig/5q2QBhXr35I/s400/step7.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639025105984782818" border="0" /></a>
<br />And voila! You're done! I told you guys this was super easy and it's great for beginners just venturing into nail art. There are some really great tutorials out there for more complicated and detailed designs but this one is so simple that once you've tried it a time or two, you can knock out full flower mani's in 20 minutes flat. I kid you not!
<br />
<br />And for a little more inspiration, here are couple of designs I came up with using the five dot flower... so many possibilities!
<br />
<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pU_xfvWN2Aw/TkHXp0uXrgI/AAAAAAAABjQ/tWGLAGX6pfQ/s1600/step-flowers2.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pU_xfvWN2Aw/TkHXp0uXrgI/AAAAAAAABjQ/tWGLAGX6pfQ/s400/step-flowers2.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5639025321972313602" border="0" /></a>
<br />I hope you guys found this tutorial helpful and if you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to hit me up in the comments!

I added a little gemstone on my pinkie nails for a little bit of interest.

<br />As an aside, I'm also working on a little tutorial for the flowers which I hope to have up tomorrow. It's so easy and way quicker than a lot of other flower techniques I've seen on line and I promise, anyone can do it! The metallic look isn't the best example for these but if you look at my last two posts, you can probably see the details better. Anywho, thanks for reading!

I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Whirlwind White, Fuchsia Flare, Magenta Motion, and Chartreuse Chase with China Glaze Tree Hugger and Fairy Dust. (The Fairy Dust is a light coat over the the flowers but the camera doesn't capture it all that well. It looks super cute in person though!)<br /><br />Pardon my cuticles... they're quite overdue for some TLC.
